Forever Father
The Forever Father Project is a thesis book that documents my entire research and design process. I chose to focus on the mental health challenges of single fathers, a group that doesn’t get enough attention.
My work explores how daily stress, money troubles, and social pressure impact their well-being. This book serves as a visual and written narrative, walking you through the problem, my research, and the final design solutions I created to help.
Logo Design
Designing the logo was a challenge because I wanted to perfectly capture the bond between a father and child. Initially, I struggled with a cursive font that didn’t work well at different sizes, and I realized I was overcomplicating things.
I decided to pivot to a bolder font to represent strength. In the new version, the typography acts as the support for an illustration of a father and daughter on a swing. This better reflects my message of stability and support. While the first logo didn’t make the cut as the primary brand, I’m keeping it as an alternative option for specific uses.
Finding the right colour palette was tough until I looked for shades that actually complemented my main dark blue. I chose that blue to represent strength and trust, but the balance felt off.
Since I’m a single father myself, I stopped overthinking and asked myself how my daughter makes me feel. The word “grounded” immediately came to mind. This led me to a palette of soft earth tones, which perfectly balance out the bold blue and give the brand a more stable, natural feel.
Web Design
The purpose of the website is to create a user-friendly experience for single fathers who struggle with daily mental health struggles. These struggles that affect their day to day well being can lead to “doom scrolling”, difficulty, frustration trying to find what they truly need.
The website will consider all these factors and create a “choose location option” which will give the user a chance to find what they’re looking for within their province. Giving them a list of resources, programs, financial and mental health services within their province or area.
Social Media
Building a community is the main vision of this Project, Giving single fathers a chance to meet others to relate and defeat the feeling of isolation. The project will create a Facebook and Instagram page, to cover the age demographic of 18-65 and over.
